About impossible press

Me working on a large scale print during my residency at the Morgan Conservatory in Cleveland, OH. Learn more about that experience here.

Impossible Press is the publishing arm of artist and educator Neil Daigle Orians. Founded in 2016, the on-again-off-again (currently on again) project has had many iterations ranging from unexecuted print exchanges to contemporary art criticism blog to publishing my friends zines using copiers at the various institutions I worked for. For my writing + studio updates, check out the Bulletin.

Its current iteration was reignited after being confronted by a quote from Half Letter Press’ Brett Bloom;

Hi publishers and printers! What are you making on your machines today?

In context of the SCOTUS’ 2022 decision on Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the poignant and pointed question becomes a rally cry. What are we doing with our machines, our institutional weight, our ability to produce and disseminate?

I have ADHD. As such, Impossible Press has no easily traceable agenda. Issues of self-representation, queer justice, and institutional critique certainly arise every now and again, but I know myself. I know I am incapable of committing to a mission statement. So I will be doing what I can — my best.
