Oh, hi.

Will this go anywhere? Will this fall flat again? Who knows.

I started Impossible Press while I was energized from the high of coming home from the 2016 Southern Graphics Council International Conference. I had been many things since then, an on-again-off-again publishing practice mostly. So here I am, once again at a print conference (Mid America Print Council) in my hotel room in Kent, Ohio. I’ve just moved to Cincinnati to start a tenure track position at the University of Cincinnati. I haven’t taken my ADHD meds in a few days while I’ve been up here and I am once again energized.

During a panel talk surrounding memes of all things, artist David Wischer quoted Half Letter Press’ Brett Bloom. In the caption of a post on Facebook, Bloom asked a simple question;

Hi publishers and printers! What are you making on your machines today?

The image in the post was of a poster protesting the SCOTUS Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision. This simple question, in that context, served as a simultaneous wakeup call, rally cry, and critical observation. I now have institutional backing in a way I’ve never had before (hey DAAP) and the stability of a tenure track position in a part of the country where art and community are inextricably linked.

This project has had many ups and downs (mostly downs, let’s be real). So I’m not trying to make any promises, grandiose gestures, or other statements that may or may not come back to bite me. I’ve already forked over the $300 for a years worth of hosting and other things to once again try and launch this project.

Maybe it’ll stick this time. Maybe.
