Make! Make! Ready?? Prints (Series 01)

A “makeready” is a sheet of paper that is used to test a printing machine, typically offset lithograph or letterpress, in order to prepare it for the actual edition (it literally “makes” the press “ready”). Often times they are reused in order to save on materials, resulting in wildly layered and cacophonous prints. While screen printing, I often keep extra paper around to test my screens, play with colors, or otherwise just make sure a screen is ready to print. This is the first in a series where I’ve started to catalogue and organize these make readies into consistently made objects. Each print is 100% unique, 11 x 15” and printed on heavy watercolor paper. I intuitively continued adding onto them until I felt they were finished, and have since continued this process of intentional make-ready-ing.

Basically, they’re fun prints with the residues of my recent projects forced onto each other.
